Prostate Cancer? I did not know what to make of this mornings news. A mixture of emptiness (not knowing what to think) and shock still pains my insides. My childhood crush, who I haven't seen in over 2 years is possibly dying from prostate cancer. It has spread to his stomach. I would like to ask if it is common among young men (20), and if genetics plays a major role? (He's father died of prostate cancer before he was born.) Does he have any chances of survival?
What is the best surgical procedure to treat prostate cancer? I am from Philippines, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The doctor's advice is to do surgical procedure wherein they have to remove the testicles/scrotum of my dad. Isn't he suppose to remove the prostate instead of removing the testicles/scrotum? Once the testicles are removed, what are the chances of survival if his prostate wont be removed?
Can you help with this question about prostate cancer and pomegranate juice? I have a strong family history of prostate cancer (father & older brother). I am now over 65 and my PSA tests have remained at normal levels I have that test and a rectal exam by a urologist done annually. I've heard recently that pomegranate juice may be of value in treating men wiith prostate cancer whose cancer is still progressing despite radiation and/or hormonal therapy. What I'd like to know is this: (1) Is there any evidence that it might help in preventing or delaying onset of the disease? and (2) Is there any indication it could interfere with early diagnosis by skewing the PSA test?
How long can you live with Prostate cancer? About ten years or so ago I went to the doctor and asked about Prostate cancer screening. He said I was too young. Besides being over worked under paid and uninsured I have a pain in my scrotum and it feels like I have an 8 ball in between my crotch. I have been doing a lot of heavy lifting and I am exhausted. Everything works fine down there but I am very tired. A friend of mine had kidney cancer and he died shortly afterwards, he complained of being tired. Also my bones hurt. I was thinking that I could have a body infection. Should I be terminated by lethal injection? Getting sick is a sin in this country, I should be punished. Of course I could be over reacting, it has been a terrible week.

After prostate cancer operation does a man lose his sex desire? I am not up on this topic so I must ask an expert here. I have written to a man who has has prostate cancer and the operation. How much should prostate cancer research be getting as compared to breast cancer research? Recent studies show that the death rates from Prostate Cancer are much higher than previsously thought, higher than even Breast Cancer rates. Even previosuly, there was only a 1% difference in the death rates. Do you know how government research money is provided for Breast Cancer as compared to what is provided for Prostate Cancer? Recent studies have also found that the PSA for prostate cancer is not as reliable as once thought, so vigilance in taking the test may not help. The difference is that the government provides $1 for Prostate Cancer research for every $700 for Breast Cancer. This last year, the very first Federal Men Health Commission was established, but it has to find its own funding. There are over 200, fully funded Federal Women's Health Commission. http://www.menshealthnetwork.org/
Could someone corroborate that abstinence of sex is a risk factor to prostate cancer? I remember reading that priests, monks etc showed a higher incidence of prostate cancer due to abstinence but I have not been able to find it again. just off the press. For example, men who reported 21 or more ejaculations per month in their 40s had a 32% lower risk of prostate cancer later in life compared with those who reported between four and seven ejaculations per month. Men who reported more than 21 monthly ejaculations in the previous year had a 51% lower risk of prostate cancer. Overall, an average of 21 or more ejaculations a month during a man's lifetime decreased the risk of prostate cancer later in life by 33%. And each increase of three ejaculations per week during a man's lifetime was associated with a 15% reduction in prostate cancer risk. Ejaculation May Lower Prostate Cancer Risk The findings, published in the April 7 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association, are based on data collected from nearly 30,000 predominately white men aged 46 to 81.

My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer? My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is in the early stages of it. I don't know exactly what phase or much about it for that matter. Nonetheless I am worried and scared and so is my mother. He has two options to remove it either chemo or surgery. Does anyone know which option might be better and does anyone have experiences where someone in their life had this and was fine afterward?
Why is there so much fundraising for Breast Cancer ? But not for Prostate Cancer ? I see alot of charity and publicity about Breast Cancer. I even bought a book of stamps with proceeds going to Breast Cancer research. But what about men ? Men are just as likely to get Prostate Cancer and much more likely to die from prostate cancer. Because men rarely get checkups for it.... until it's too late. For Women, early detection is key to fighting Breast Cancer. Same goes for Men. But there has been so little publicity for Men to get examined. Why the difference of the sexes ?
