What do you think about the cervical cancer jab for girls the Government are discussing? This would be given to girls aged 12 to 13 in three doses over six months at a cost of £300 a course. The vaccine would help prevent cervical cancer as it protects against the STD, Human Pappillomavirus infection HPV which causes most cases of cervical cancer. The Government have agreed to it in principle but they have to review the costs to the NHS. Personally I think this jab can only be a good thing as so many women die of cervical cancer in this country (over 1000 a year) and if it helps to prevent it then that's great. The innoculations may start in Autumn 2008 and will not be compulsory. The Cervical Smear testing programme will continue as this jab won't protect against all strains of the HPV infection. There are HPV vaccines available now in the UK but haven't been approved for use by the Government. Some people apparently are worried this jab will increase promiscuity in young girls as it's given before they become sexually active. What do you think about this vaccination?
How is cervical cancer diagnosed and treated today and in the 90s? Recently, someone in my family said they had cervical cancer and was diagnosed 10 years ago. In the beginning, they said that the doctor performed a pap smear, and from this, diagnosed her with cervical cancer. He gave her 10 to 15 years to live and told her, "Live your life!". Apparently, in the 90's, their was no cure or even treatment for this form of cancer. However, after researching cervical cancer, I discovered that cervical cancer was typiclly caused by HPV, that a bioapsy must be performed in order to even diagnose this form of cancer, there are treatments, it's curable, and doctors typically give people 5-years to live upon diagnosis. I presented these facts to the person making this claim and was told that in the 90s there was no cure for this cancer...the terms she used to describe her diagnosis wasn't medical at all. What are the symptoms of cervical cancer? Ways it is diagnosed and treated? Was it treatable in the 90s? How can someone survive for 10-years?
How do I help my friend who has just been diagnosed with cervical cancer? My friend is 35 and found out yesterday that she has cervical cancer. She says she threw up most of last night (not because she's sick, it's because she's so upset). I know that many people can overcome cervical cancer and that this is a cancer that can be treated. If you have any suggestions on how I can support her, that would be appreciated.
What do you think of the relatively new cervical cancer vaccine? I am 16 years old, not sexually active, and considering getting the cervical cancer vaccine. My mom and I have talked about it, and she's talked to her gyno, and we all think it's a good idea to get it. Just wondering, for those who have already taken it, do you have any opinions on it? Thanks for the input! my understanding is that you don't necessarily have to have sex to get cervical cancer...just a small correction there
What besides sex can cause cervical cancer? I got a bad pap back and they told me that I might have precancerous cells. I've never had any stds and still dont but all I keep reading is that cervical cancer is caused by sexually transmitted viruses. Can it still be caused without having a std?
Why does the Gardasil commercial clame it is a CERVICAL CANCER vaccine? Last time I checked out Gardasil it was a HPV vaccine and not a cervical cancer vaccine. It protects against 4 strands of HPV only 2 of which cause cervical cancer. Also, there are other things that cause cervical cancer besides HPV even though it is the leading cause I don't understand how they can market the vaccine as a cervical cancer vaccine.. Any one have any insight? Claim* sorry..
Cervical Cancer? I have cervical dysplasia and my doctor told me that certain foods can actually help cure it. He gave me a list of some things to eat and things not to eat. I have also read online that women with dysplasia and cancer should stay away from foods with Vitamin B6 in them. I plan to ask my doctor when I go back what foods have this and what foods don't but will have to wait 3 months. Does anyone know any foods that contain this vitamin?
How is being vaccinated for cervical cancer different from being vaccinated for measles or whopping cough? Okay - I'll be honest I don't see the problem, our school district had a long list of vaccinations like measles - before any of our children could start school. Now my children are out of school. Also our daughter had to pay for her vaccination, which being over 18, it was her choice to have. I believe if offered years ago, I would of wanted my child vaccinated against this form of cancer. Can someone tell me why they wouldn't want it? I am open and honest and really want to understand? Are the objections about the vaccine realistic or just political hype ? There are currently many diseases a child must be vaccinated against to even attend school - how is this different? The Governor of Texas made it mandatory to be vaccinated for human papillomavirus that cause most cases of cervical cancer. Governor Perry also directed state health authorities to make the vaccine available free to girls 9 to 18 who are uninsured or whose insurance does not cover vaccines.

What does HPV do besides cause cervical cancer? Besides the warts, and cervical cancer, does it still show up and cause cancer in other parts of the body? How can one help their immune system to fight it off as there is no cure for it? I am aware that there are vaccines, that is not going to help someone that already has it. If you have any knowledge, please share it with me. I am not able to get much from physicians, physicians assistants, nurses or the internet. I really am looking for some answers, not just to be put off with politician answers. And for the record, there has been no sexual activity for 3 years.
